Questions

The questions we hear most, answered plainly. If yours is not here, call — it is usually quicker than reading.

Visiting

Where are you?

12-07 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101 — inside Jay Fix Phone & Computer. The G train at 21 St and the 7 train at Vernon Blvd–Jackson Av are each about a three-minute walk.

When are you open?

Every day, 10 AM to 9 PM, including weekends. Holiday hours can differ, so check our Google listing or call.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in. If you want to be sure a part is in stock first, call (212) 404-3000 with your model number.

Prices & quotes

Why is there no price list on the website?

Because part prices change week to week and differ completely between models, any list would be vague or wrong. We quote for your exact model by phone or at the counter instead.

Will I know the price before you start?

Yes. No repair work starts until you have agreed the price. If something unexpected turns up once the device is open, we stop and tell you before going further.

Is it cheaper than the Apple Store?

Out of warranty, independent repair is often cheaper — but if your device is covered by AppleCare+ or Apple’s warranty, Apple may cost you less. Our Apple Store vs independent repair guide explains how to compare.

Repairs

What do you repair?

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (screens, batteries, liquid damage, keyboards, trackpads, charging and power faults), iPhones, Samsung, Google Pixel and other Android phones, and Windows laptops.

How long does a repair take?

Common MacBook screen and battery repairs are usually done the same day when the part is in stock. Liquid damage and board faults take longer because the time depends on what we find.

Which MacBook models do you work on?

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro from 2012 onwards, Intel and Apple silicon (M1 to M5), plus the 12-inch MacBook. Our model number finder shows exactly which one you have.

Is my old MacBook worth repairing?

Often — especially a battery or screen on an Apple silicon Mac. Intel Macs are a closer call because macOS Tahoe is the last version Apple says will support them. We will tell you honestly if a repair is not worth it.

Warranty & your data

Do repairs come with a warranty?

Yes, depending on the repair and the part: some repairs carry our own warranty and some parts carry the supplier’s. You are told which, and for how long, before you agree.

Will I lose my files?

Screen, battery, keyboard and port repairs do not touch your storage. Liquid and board damage carry more risk. Back up before any repair if you can.

Do you need my password?

Ask at the counter what your repair needs. Many hardware repairs can be done and tested without it. If something must be checked inside the operating system, a temporary test account keeps your own account private.
